CLOSURE OF MADADENI LIBRARY FOR STOCK TAKING

Notice is herewith given of the closure of the Madadeni Library for the purpose of conducting a stock take of library material by the Department : Arts and Culture.

The library will be closed to the public for the following period:
Saturday : 30 May 2015
Monday : 1 June 2015
Tuesday : 2 June 2015

The library will re-open on Wednesday, 3 June 2015.
Any inconvenience is regretted.

Community Invitation hosted by the National Rural Development and Land Reform

The community of Newcastle is invited to the following public event that will be hosted by the National Rural Development and Land Reform the department will be providing assistance with the following:

ü They will explain to community the process of buying and selling the property
ü The registration of the property .
ü The process of surveying of land .
ü Give out ownership print out.
ü Give guidance about the process in the Deeds and Surveys.

This will done in the following sections and at these days.

Easter Holiday Plan – Operation Qwashisa

On Friday, 27 March 2015, the Newcastle Municipality Traffic Section launched its Easter Holiday Plan themed “Operation Qwashisa” in collaboration with other Law Enforcement Agencies, i.e. SAPS and Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).

The aim of “Operation Qwashisa” is to ensure a zero tolerance approach in order to achieve 100% compliance by all road users. The Newcastle Municipality Traffic Services will ensure high visibility and compliance on all traffic related matters.

Targeted offences during this Easter period will include the following :
Unroadworthy motor vehicles with the emphasis on public transport
Documentary offences related to public passenger transport vehicles including drivers and operators
Passenger overloading
Driver fitness
Drunk driving cases
Safety belts
Vehicle registration / permits
All movable offences

The Newcastle Municipality Traffic Services requests all residents to be cautious and considerate when driving on our roads, as offenders will not be tolerated. All Law Enforcement Agencies will be deployed until Friday, 17 April 2015.

Residents are requested to report any incidents and emergencies on our emergency contact number, 034 312 1222. This number is fully operational on a 24 hour basis, 365 days per year.

The Newcastle Municipality wishes all road users a safe Easter Holidays.

State of the town address

Public Notice: State of the town address by Mayor Cllr Afzul Rehman will take place tonight at Farmers Hall 6pm. Community Members are encourage to tune into 103.7 Newcastle community Radio station for the live broadcast.

National Water Week

Newcastle Municipality will be celebrating the National Water Week from the 16th of March to the 22nd of March. Water is a scarce resource and therefore we need constructive and innovative ideas to manage and conserve it. Hence we kindly invite you as an important stakeholder to participate in discussions regarding water conservation and demand management.

Four schools will be visited
• Nkululekweni at Dickss Halt 16-03 / 9h00
• Hlalaunolwazi Primary school 16-03 / 12h00
• Sizakancane in Blaaubosch 17-03 / 9h00
• Charlestown high School 18-03 / 10h00

Messages
Schools will be engaged in a competition to read a meter. The schools will be visited once a quarter to assess the progress. On the 4th quarter results will be compared and best performing school will be awarded with a certificate and a jojo tank for water harvesting.

Messages
The community will be addressed by speakers from different departments. Portfolio Chairperson; Health Agriculture, Environment; Traditional Leadership about the use of water and consequences of wasting it. A competition will be introduced aiming at water loss reductions as follows
• Four quarterly visits will be done to each area
• Reducing water loses through reporting at 0860 144 144
• Statistical analysis will be done in consultation with ward councillors
• The 4th quarter visit will be to award the certificate to the winning ward.

The Premier of KwaZulu Natal, Mr. Senzo Mchunu will deliver the State of the province address on the 27th of February,2015.
Members of the public are requested to write their inputs into the Premier’s Speech for the State of the Province address and place them in the comment boxes provided be the Municipality.

WATER SUPPLY INTERRUPTION NOTICE

The Newcastle Municipality wishes to inform its customers about a scheduled water supply interruption in Newcastle West and East due to the Department of Water Affairs which will be inspecting and assessing the Service Gates at Nthingwayo Dam on the 24th of February 2015. Both the raw water pipe lines will be isolated; this will result in a 70% short supply of raw water to the Ngagane water plant for the 8 hour period. This will have an impact on the supply of potable water and water outages will occur late on the 24th and definitely on the 25th up until late in the evening.
Residents are kindly requested to use water sparingly and not to water gardens on this day. The Municipality would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Water Supply Interruption Notice

The Newcastle Municipality wishes to inform its customers about a scheduled water supply interruption in Newcastle West due to the installation of a new 700mm diameter steel pipeline that will connect to the existing showground pump station as part of our infrastructure upgrades and service improvement plans.

Date: 13 February 2015
Time: 5:00am to 12:00 noon.
The following areas will be affected: CBD/Town, Central, Arbor Park, Newcastle Mall, Casino, Karbochem, and Vlam Industrial area, Fairleigh, Lennoxton, Paradise and Fernwood.

NOTICE NO.2
Date: 14 February 2015 and 15 February 2015
Time: 5:00am to 2:00am.
The following areas will be affected: Amiel Park, Hutten Heights, Pioneer Park, Aviary Hill, Sunnyridge, Schuinshoogte, Signal Hill, Barry Hertzog Park, Amajuba Park and Ncandu Park.

Residents are kindly requested to use water sparingly and not to water gardens on this day. The Municipality would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
